In 2021, Safe & Just Michigan developed a fellowship program for people directly or indirectly impacted by the criminal legal system who want to develop skills and relationships helpful to a career in advocacy. Potential areas of fellowship focus can include fund development or outreach and community engagement — skills highly sought after by Michigan nonprofits working in criminal justice reform and other areas of advocacy.
The fellowship provides hands-on learning with professional Safe & Just Michigan team members who have experience in fundraising, community organizing, government relations and advocacy, public health, media relations and social media management. The duration of the fellowship is four months with an eight- to 12-hour weekly commitment. We tailor the program to each fellow to ensure a meaningful and productive experience for each individual.
Fellows are provided a $5,000 stipend for participation in the program.
